This past Saturday I headed out to the Toyota Speedway in Irwindale for the final event of the Formula DRIFT season. The event was completely sold out and not only set attendance records for Irwindale Speedway, but for being the largest Formula DRIFT event in history as well!

Daijiro Yoshihara was a favorite to take the championship, but the 5 point leaders were close enough to make the event extremely exciting up until the final round. Perhaps the most surprising moment of the night was when Dai was knocked out of the Top 16, leaving the championship up for grabs. In the end, Dai narrowly maintained his points lead, and went on to claim his first championship ever as well as the Tires.com Triple Crown!

Congratulations to Dai for his championship win, to Justin Pawlak for 2nd, and to Chris Forsberg for taking 3rd! It was another great series, and an awesome final round!

Just a heads up, the Rare JDM Time Attack G35 WILL NOT be at this years West Coast Modball Rally. Apparently someone is trying to get sponsorship using images of our car.

We did attend the rally last year, and Modball does have permission to use images of our car… but to be clear; the car will not be there, and 2 models from the U.K will not be driving it.

Thanks to Peter over at Torco USA for adding Rare JDM to their Team Torco Page! We’ve been running Torco SR-5 motor oil and SGO gear oil for the past few months with great results, and definitely recommend it, especially if you track your car.

This past Saturday, G35′s from all over California, Arizona, and even as far as Texas, came out to Venice Beach for the 3rd annual G35 Sedan GTG. Organized by Marcus Cooke, this meet has turned into a huge event! The quality of cars that come out and the sponsor support just keeps getting better, and this year was no exception!

It was an overcast day, and as soon as I pulled up, so did the police. Luckily they were very cool, and actually hung around and asked some questions about the cars before they left. With all the cars, the 20+ sponsors and raffle, the event was another huge success, and everyone is already talking about next year!

This past Sunday, Church Automotive held a dyno day for the VQ community. Setup by Mike Riggs on the G35 enthusiast forum, g35driver.com, the event was a great success. The day before, G35′s took over the Venice beach parking area for the annual G35 Sedan GTG. People drove from as far as Texas (some flew in from much farther) to attend the Venice beach event, and many stayed for the dyno day, which made for a weekend full of events.

Shawn Church of Church Automotive had the day setup for $30 runs, including lunch and a raffle. This is a great price to see how much power your car is putting down, and when you throw in food and a chance to win a raffle, it’s a hell of a deal! The dyno runs went as scheduled, and the event ran extremely smoothly. Shawn provided lunch for all those in attendance, and the raffles happened throughout the day, with the grand prize being a Osiris Uprev Tuner Package ($700+ value!).
